Well, it is not exactly what you would call a straight line, and probably you gotta follow the link to the larger version to figure out the details (in case you care...)
The journey starts in Tashkent and proceed westwards through Uzbekistan, then south through Turkmenistan, and finally into Iran up to Teheran. (The green bit is a leg we are thinking to do by plane)
At some point maybe we will post also our tentative travel plan...

...Lorenzo, ma una bella vacanza a Taormina?! Va be', per che data dobbiamo chiamare l'ambasciata italiana se non ti vediamo tornare?

I lived in Dashogus and Ashgabat about eight or nine years ago in the US Peace Corps... let me know if I can be of any help. Also, if you ever make the trip I'd love to see recent pictures, as I hear there have been a lot of (aesthetic) changes.
Good luck!

You guys are great. Thanks for sharing. I'm going on my first trip to Iran this fall, and am very excited.
Have you heard yet of Reza Aslan? He's got a book "No God but God" which is supposed to be phenomenal. He himself, an Iranian-American, has become quite well-known as one of the main cross-cultural interpreters between the west, esp. the US, and Iran, and more generally, Islam.
Anyway, have a WONDERFUL time! And remember to breathe deeply.

I am so excited for you... take me with you :)
